Dementia Orientation In-Service
(2 Hours)

An introductory experience designed to help participants develop a basic appreciation for what happens in the brain due to some form of dementia. Specifically, discovering the value in what abilities remain as the condition progresses, as well as an introduction to supportive responses.

The goal is to see that the person living with dementia is doing the best they can, rather than assuming they are simply not trying, or doing something on purpose. Participants will also learn to identify for themselves when it's time to pause their agenda, such as a care task, and seek additional support.

*Those who attend the orientation in-service in full will receive a Certificate of Attendance.

Objectives

  1. 1Describe the difference between Dementia and Alzheimer's
  2. 2Identify the four truths about all dementias
  3. 3Identify the impact of vision changes for a person living with dementia
  4. 4Identify the impact of language changes for a person living with dementia
  5. 5Understand the three zones of interaction and the significance of using Visual, Verbal, Touch (V.V.T)
  6. 6Identify situations when pausing may be best

Connections Within Reach: A Dementia Care Partner Support Group

Each 90-minute, in-person, care partner support group meeting is designed for family members and loved ones caring for an individual living with dementia. Hosted and/or sponsored by your organization and led by Amanda, each session provides a supportive environment where caregivers can gain practical knowledge, share experiences, and connect with others facing similar challenges.

Unlike traditional peer-led support groups, this program combines PAC education with a structured, facilitator-guided discussion to ensure participants leave with actionable strategies, increased confidence, and meaningful support.

Each 90-minute session includes:

  • A focused educational presentation on a dementia-related topic
  • Facilitated group discussion and problem-solving
  • Opportunities for participants to share challenges and successes
  • Practical caregiving tools and resources
  • Guidance tailored to the needs of family care partners
